During my lunch hour at work, I used to surf Ebay. Now I can't get on anymore. I guess the company put a block on or something. There must be a way around this, maybe a small program to stop the block etc. Any suggestions ? Thanks, Mike

I'll give you a couple of suggestions, but you must promise to use them only during your lunch break.
If you are allowed to use the Google translation service, enter the following into the address bar, assuming you want to visit the US site. You can easily edit it for other eBay sites. What you are doing is accessing Google's translation from English to English. The 'translated' eBay pages appear in a frame. google.com/translate?langpair=en|en&u=www.ebay.com Using the above method, you are effectively using Google as a proxy. You could use any of the thousands of proxies out there to do the same job, without the unnecessary translation of course. Remember these tips fail when you should actually have your nose to the grindstone! |

On my "lunch hour" I copied / pasted the link you gave me into the address bar on IE6, and hit enter. Then I got the usual message that this site is blocked, internet auction site etc, or something like that. Any other suggestions that I can try on Monday ? Thanks, Mike |

You could try entering the following into your address bar.
google.com/translate?langpair=en|en&u=66.135.194.100 This will not take you to the eBay home page but, if it is not blocked, there should be a link within the frame that allows you to navigate to the home page. Try it at home first. As I mentioned previously, you could try a proxy site. There are literally thousands out there. You will find many of them listed here. http://proxy.org/cgi_proxies.shtml |

I tried it several times during the day from home, no luck. On Monday at lunch, I will try one of those proxy sites. Thanks for the suggestions, will post back and let you know if it worked. Many thanks, snodger ! |

In the Google frame you should get a 'Page Not Responding' message, but there should be a link in the frame to Home Page.
Alternatively, this will also take you to eBay. Click on click here when it appears in the frame. google.com/translate?langpair=en|en&u=66.135.192.87 If none of my suggestions work, it indicates that your employer is serious about blocking sites, and that the IT department is using effective software, properly configured, to that end. There is nothing you can do about that from your computer. |

I would doubt that if the Sysadmin has configured the program correctly you will not bypass it. I remember some time back when was working we had a program that reported all these little internal attacks, and if they became to often we had a little chat to the person responsible.
Some people were not happy and in some cases faced dismissal. is it worth it ??? |

I tried all the suggestions, and I always get the same message that ACCESS IS BLOCKED etc, even trying to get to a proxy site. I guess the IT department did their homework. Oh well, it wasn't that important. thanks for the suggestions--snodger, engines, and warXchild
