muBlinder User Guide : v3.54 Background Windows Genuine Advantage Microsoft's Windows Genuine Advantage (WGA) program has two independent components, which are called Notification and Validation. What is muBlinder? muBlinder (Microsoft Update Blinder) is an application that blinds Microsoft Update's WGA Validation and allows you to view, choose and install all available updates. In addition, you are able to download programs from the Microsoft Download Center that are protected by WGA Validation. In case you have installed the WGA Notification update, muBlinder allows you to get rid of any nagging popups. muBlinder DISCLAIMER muBlinder is intended for use by those who already own a Windows OS licence but might be experiencing difficulty getting updates due to corrupt DLLs or other problems. It is not intended to be used on, or to help in any sort of way in the use of, pirated or otherwise unauthorized versions of any Windows OS. By using this software you declare that you legally own a licence to use the Windows OS on which the software will be run. Can muBlinder be used at all Update sites? muBlinder is designed to work at the Microsoft Update site, and it will also work at Windows Update, since both sites use WGA Validation to check your computer. The Office Update site uses a different activeX, OGA, which muBlinder is not designed to handle. This means that you are unable to use muBlinder at the Office Update site. Note that most Office updates, including all critical ones, will be offered at Microsoft Update, and can be downloaded from there using muBlinder. For any Office updates not available at Microsoft Update, and all Office add-ons that are protected by OGA at Download Center, we offer a request service. Where can I obtain muBlinder? http://www.p2plife.com/forums/Official_muB..._Page-t320.html Do I need additional software to use muBlinder? You need .NET Framework v2.0 installed. Download it here. How do I use muBlinder? Unzip muBlinder to its own folder and run it. Should you ever wish to remove muBlinder, simply delete the muBlinder.exe file and its folders. It is not installed on your computer. ![]() VALIDATION Under the Validation tab, read the information at the top and then look at the contents of the box at the bottom. This is a report on the status of the file LegitCheckControl.dll, which is located in your \Windows\system32 folder. This is the file used by the WGA Validation tool to check your status. ![]() If you have the version of Microsoft's WGA Validation tool on your computer that muBlinder v3.54 was designed to work with, then you should see the message shown in the image below. ![]() If you now click on the Enable button at the top of the screen, your status should change to this. ![]() Note that the Go to Microsoft Update and Go to Download Center buttons are now active. By clicking on the relevant button, the muBlinder browser will take you either to the Microsoft Update site or to Download Center. ![]() NOTIFICATION Under the Notification tab you can inspect your Notification status in the bottom box. ![]() If you have the Notification tool installed on your computer, and it has not been dealt with, then you should see this under the Notification tab. ![]() If you need to deal with Notification, you have a choice of two methods. Method 1 is recommended. If you use Method 1, you should see something like this. ![]() How can I configure muBlinder? The configuration settings for muBlinder are available under the Settings tab. The first time you view the settings screen it should look like this. ![]() By default, muBlinder will check for an updated version every time it is run. You are recommended to leave this setting checked. If you do uncheck the option you can, at any time, check manually for an update by clicking on the Check button. ![]() The object is to remind you that you must not close muBlinder while any downloaded updates from Windows Update are still being installed on your computer. You can easily disable this warning, by unchecking the box, if you prefer. How do I install protected software such as WMP11? Use the muBlinder browser to visit the Microsoft Download Center. muBlinder will blind WGA Validation so that you may download the installation file for the software you would like to install. Save the file to your hard drive. For most software, the installation file will be a self-extracting executable that, if you try to run it, will initiate the software's in-built WGA Validation. To prevent this, you must not try to run this executable. Instead, you must extract the contents of the executable to its own folder using WinRAR or WinZIP or equivalent ( you can right-click on the executable and choose an extract option) and then run an appropriate blinder. If the installation file for the software is a .msi file, then no extraction is needed, or indeed possible. Use an appropriate blinder and follow all instructions carefully. Now see below to read all about blinders and how to use them. Is it safe to accept programs such as IE7 and WMP11, offered as "updates" by Microsoft? From 04 October 2007, Microsoft has removed WGA protection from IE7. It is now safe to accept this program if it is offered as an update. For a program such as WMP11, which continues to be protected by WGA, do not accept it if it is offered as an update. |

BLINDERS On 04 October 2007 Microsoft issued a new release of IE7, in several language versions, which is not protected by WGA. On 25 October 2007 this was extended to all language versions of IE7. A blinder is no longer required to install IE7. ![]() Anyone able and willing to create a blinder for a particular piece of software can create and upload their blinder under the Create tab. What is a blinder? A blinder is used to bypass WGA Validation at installation for software, such as WMP11, which requires it. It is a patch that must be applied to the relevant file in the set-up package so that WGA Validation is "blinded". How do I download blinders? As a general rule, the latest blinders are more likely to work than earlier blinders. You will find the latest blinders listed first. Where do I place blinders? All blinders must be placed in the data\blinders sub-folder that you will find inside your muBlinder folder. When a blinder is saved correctly it will immediately appear at the top of the Blinder screen. How do I use blinders? Before using a blinder you are advised to create a Restore point. ![]() Do NOT click on the Start button immediately. You must first read the instructions included with the blinder. Click on the Start button only when instructed to do so. A message should appear in the blinder screen as shown below. ![]() A window for opening files will also appear, as shown. This window will probably partially obscure the blinder screen, but it can be moved if you so wish. The name of the file to be patched is shown, but you will be in the wrong location. ![]() You must use the 'Look in' drop-down box at the top to navigate to the folder specified in the blinder instructions. The file will then appear in the main pane of the window. Click on Open. ![]() The blinder will do its job and you should see the following message in the blinder screen. ![]() You must now carefully follow the remaining steps in the instructions to install your software. Will a blinder work for any language version of the software? As a general rule a blinder will work only for the language version of the software for which it was created. For the most popular software we are able to offer solutions for any language. Can I create a blinder for others to use? We welcome blinders from users of muBlinder. If you are able to create a blinder, go to the Create tab of muBlinder. There you can create and upload your blinder so that others may use it, although this is only recommended for advanced users. Any misuse of blinders may result in you being banned from P2PLife, meaning you will no longer be able to receive updates for muBlinder. |

Hi,
I am having a few problems with MB and just windows in general and I was wondering if someone could help me out since you guys seem to know your stuff pretty well. First issue I am having which is affect MB I am sure is that...for some time now whenever I reformat any of my computers and install Windows XP (maybe its the CD I am using, not sure) after trying to do updates (I think thats when it starts) after I restart or just boot up my computer the desktop loads up, but none of the icon are on the desktop and if you place the mouse over the task bar at the bottom it shows a busy mouse and I can't do anything. The only way I have figured out how to get past this so that my computer works is to go to Windows task manager, go to processes, end the explorer.exe file and then add new tasks and load up explorer.exe again. Exit out of task manager and it works again. I find this very strange and because of that it tends to cause some problems when doing updates because it seems to not fully complete some of them. Anyone have any suggestions on how to overcome this problem? This leads to MB, in which I will get to the validation part and it will detect the .dll file and the .dll version will pass the first time I do it, but then after trying some of the updates and restarting the next time I come into MB the .dll version no longer passes and I can't click on enable because it is greyed out. So I guess that is my second problem. Please help if you can and thanks in advance. |
