I actually have a similar problem. I've been trying to use MuBlinder to download DirectX 9.0c but when I click "continue" it just attempts to validate me as per normal. I'm running XP 64 professional -- don't know if that has anything to do with it. Mublinder detects the DLL just fine and I'm able to view the update website with the Mubrowser so it's not that. Like the previous poster I followed all the steps; I can't imagine what's wrong. I even tried deleting the DLL in my system32 and then clicking "enable" again with mublinder.

Actually, assuming that when I do that with mublinder all it does is return a backup of the dll to the folder then I guess that wouldn't be productive at all because mublinder's backup would be the newer version of DLL anyway. Do you think that's possibly what's happening?

How did you activate Vista? all methods for activating Vista automatically result in a proper functioning MS Update and MS Download Center. muBlinder does not currently support Vista, but im prepared to use you as a testing platform. Please send me a PM with your MSN/Windows Messenger ID if you would like to pursue this.

Err, wow, I'm very sorry -- I meant I'm using XP. I'm a lil under the weather at the moment XD

I'll edit my post and fix that >_>

The symptoms you describe - being able to use the Microsoft Update site, but being asked to go through the validation process at Download Center when you click on the Continue button - are precisely the symptoms that anyone using muBlinder v3.51 would experience. Can you confirm that you are using muBlinder v3.52?

Definitely 3.52. I just retried it again just for the sake of being thorough -- then redownloaded muBlinder and retried again. Still the same thing.

It seems that there is something that Download Center does not like about your installation of the validation ActiveX.

You should continue with the validation process and install the ActiveX if it is offered. Then use the Enable button on the muBlinder Validation screen to blind it. Try the Download Center again after this.

If I try installing it the traditional validation way after clicking install nothing happens at all. Using the alternative method (Downloading the exe) just results in an error that says: "Code not available. The validation code could not be obtained. This may be due to technical difficulties, or you may be running an unsupported operating system ... Error code: 0x800401f3"

I can't imagine that my operating system is actually unsupported --- it's XP 64 professional. Perhaps what's wrong is something very fundamental and I need to reinstall windows or something; but I've only been running this machine for 4 days and I'd like to avoid reinstalling if it's possible.

Thanks for the help =o)

I suspect that you have a problem with one of the dll files required for the operation of WGA. My money is on msxml3.dll. The first thing to do is to make sure it is correctly registered. Copy and then paste in the Run box the command given below. You should receive a message that the operation was successful.

regsvr32 msxml3.dll

Now try to download the validation ActiveX. If you have no luck, post back here.

Still does nothing when I click install on the activeX confirmation. Tried it both using the muBlinder browser and internet explorer (both the 64bit and 32bit) -- not that it'd make any difference; just wanted to be thorough.

When you attempted to register the dll did you receive a message that the operation was successful?

In case the dll has been corrupted, you should download the file msxml3.msi from this page . Run it and when it is installed follow the same procedure to register the new msxml3.dll file as described in my previous post. See if that fixes the problem.

Hey! It definitely did something different however as of right now it's not doing anything helpful. I haven't been able to fully test it out because windows automatic update updated my internet explorer when I wasn't around (and, to be a complete dick, restarted my computer) and now IE seems to not like their addon. Whenever I go to the website it'll say that it downloaded the addon but then warn me that the addon is disabled for my protection. When I go to the screen to "manage addons" the ActiveX control isn't even there.

I'm finagling with the security settings but I can't seem to find what's stopping this from just working. ActiveX controls are enabled and all so I don't see why it's not letting me install it. Hopefully it's just IE that's being dickish but it's hard to tell.

The WGA validation ActiveX will not appear in the list of IE's add-ons to be managed for the simple reason that Microsoft does not want users to "manage" this tool.

You need to go to the folder \WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files. You should see Windows Genuine Advantage Validation Tool there. If you have your folder view set to Details, then it should show Status as Installed and Version as 1,7,59,1.

Your original post mentioned your wanting a DirectX file. If you provide me with a link to the details page for the file, so I know exactly what you want, I will provide you with a direct link to the file on the Microsoft download server. This will by-pass the WGA validation gateway check.

Hrm, damn, the Windows Genuine Advantage Validation Tool didn't show up there... Only MuWebControl Class. I'm starting to think there is something really messed up with my install of Windows or I'm doing something really stupid.

As for DirectX I actually found out I already had DirectX 9.0c installed (much to my surprise; as I said before I just set up this PC like a week ago). Thanks for the offer though =o) Right now I'm merely fighting with this WGA thing as a matter of principle.

As a side note, this new version of internet explorer is pretty stupid.

I doubt you are doing anything stupid.

I am attaching a file for you. Attached File  For_Terijan.zip (754.49K)
Number of downloads: 49

We can attempt to install the tool manually. Proceed as follows:
  • Unpack the zip file and place the dll in your folder \WINDOWS\system32.
  • Copy the command
    regsvr32 LegitCheckControl.DLL
and paste it in the Run box.
  • Click on OK and you should receive a message that the operation of entering the registry information has succeeded.
  • Go to you folder \WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files and check that the entry for Windows Genuine Advantage Validation Tool is correct as per my previous post.
  • Open muBlinder and visit the Validation screen. Take things from there.

It error'd me saying that legitcheckcontrol wasn't an executable so I went into the command prompt, navigated to system32 and did regsvr32 there. It said that it succeeded in registering the DLL yet the WGA tool still doesn't appear in Windows\Downloaded Program Files.

Attempts to get pass validation on microsoft's website still fail. It's weird that even after a manual install nothing seems to have changed...

On reflection, it seems that the reason the tool is not listed in the Downloaded Program Files is probably because you did not allow Microsoft to install it. The question is whether the manual 'installation' you carried out is sufficient. Did you manage to blind the tool using the Enable button on the muBlinder Validation screen before going to Download Center? i.e. after clicking on the Enable button at the top of the screen. You should now see this message.
Detecting DLL: Passed!
DLL Version: Passed! (1.7.0059.1)
DLL Status: Passed! (Replacement DLL)

You are ready to download updates!

Yeah, it let me click enable again and I did so but the same issue still occurred.

I didn't think this would be necessary, but we can mimic the full installation procedure for the tool. I am attaching 2 files you will need. Attached File  LCC.zip (1.33K)
Number of downloads: 25

Procedure: (Please note that I am assuming that the drive on which Windows is installed is C:)
  • Ensure that the LegitCheckControl.dll file in your \WINDOWS\system32 folder is the genuine article. You can do this by opening muBlinder and going to the Settings screen and restoring the validation backup if that option is available. If this is not possible, use the genuine file from my previous attachment.
  • Close muBlinder and then extract the 2 files from the attachment.
  • Place the .inf file in your \WINDOWS\system32 folder.
  • Merge the .reg file into your registry. Merge is probably the default action on your computer for .reg files, but you can make sure by right-clicking and selecting Merge from the Context menu. If you want to inspect the file first, select Edit from the Context menu.
  • Check whether there is now an entry for Windows Genuine Advantage Validation Tool in your \WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files folder.
  • Open muBlinder and go to the Validation screen to blind the tool.
  • Check whether this solves your problem.

After clicking on the enable button (forcing) under validation I recieved all green check marks. Still when I went to the Micrsoft update center though mublinder I was asked to download the validation tool and the installer update before preceding to all the downloads. I used the windows validation download link in the first page of the guide under "use this link" to update my validation. Now when I go to the validation screen on mublinder I get all green check marks again and when I click on the go to microsoft update button I am NOT asked to download the validation software and I am forwaded to the download center with all the updates. Remember I used the windows validation download link in the mubinder guide. I did not let windows install it itself.

Hello, today I had to format my computer and the disk that I am using is really old ( I had to install 27 updates) the version is xp pro and one of the updates I need is service pack 2. All of the other updates installed perfectly (i did not install the validation thing) but when I go to install the service pack 2 it tells me that the key code that I entered is not genuine. I am going to the update from MB so I don't know what I need to do to correct this. Obviously I need service pack 2 but I dont want to pay $150 for the updated version. Can you please help
