I had similar problem with julian. Changed to a new computer and installed WinXP Sp3. When I came to the WinXP update through muBlinder I was trapped into similar situation except that my WinXP is a Chinese version. Then following snodger's instruction in his reply to metab in post #3753 on 30 June 2011, I installed and executed windowsupdateagent30-x86.exe but the same error came back again during window update. Can anybody help? Thank you.

Follow this procedure (you will have to adapt these instructions so that they apply to the Chinese version of XP):

  • Open the System Properties Dialogue box via Control Panel (or hold down the Windows key and press the Break key).
  • Click on the Automatic Updates tab and select Notify me, but don't automatically download or install them.
  • Close the dialogue box.
  • If/when you are alerted to the need to download updates, inspect the list and uncheck any 'updates' you do not want. I am thinking particularly of the Notifications 'update' KB905474 here.
  • When the updates you agree to have been installed, you can, if that is your wish, return to the System Properties Dialogue box and turn off Automatic updates.

Thanks snodger, the procedure worked OK.
Best regards!

Hi,

It has been quite some time since I had a chance to be with my laptop that has XP SP3 on it, and I have now latest muBlinder v3.61 working and all. But as I say since I haven't been able to update it since October 2009 I have like a ton of updates to dl. And first one that I needed to dl was Microsoft Office File Validation Add-in, which got me worried. So just to ask are there some updates I should be careful about? I used express update - maybe that was the main problem.
Thnx

First of all, the Microsoft Office File Validation Add-in is useful because its function is to check that any file with an extension such as .doc, .docx, .xls, .xlsx etc you try to open is not a malicious file masquerading as a true Office file. If it is, then the Office program will issue a warning notice advising you that the file has failed validation. Actually it cannot tell whether or not the file is malicious - it does not work like a typical anti-malware program; all it can report is that the file does not conform to the Microsoft Office (Binary) File Format, which is, never-the-less, useful as a security feature. File Validation is a core component of Office 2010, but is available only as an add-in for Office 2003 and Office 2007.

My advice is never use the Express route when visiting the Update site. Microsoft are very helpful here because they flag it as the option to avoid by labelling it "recommended". Always take the Custom route. The only 'update' I think everyone should avoid is clearly named as Windows Genuine Advantage Notification (KB905474). This 'update' should be unchecked. See the muBlinder User Guide for more information.

I have installed this add-in on more than 20 computers and there have been no reports of problems. Note that, if necessary, it is easy to uninstall the add-in using the Add or Remove Programs tool.

What happened to the mublinder.zip (version 3.61)?

I'm receiving the message "[#10173] We could not find the attachment you were attempting to view."

Are you able to access the Internet using IE? If the answer is YES, delete muBlinder.exe and its folders, and then download it and try again.

thanks again for the tip. it worked, but now it's doing it again.

i just deleted the old file(s) & downloaded it again. i'm still getting the same message. i believe the last time i used mublinder w/no issues was last month some time.

any ideas why i'm getting this?

OK, I've had to search back to your post in 2010 to find out what the "same" message is. I take it that you are receiving the message "Navigation to the webpage was canceled" when you click on the <Go To MS Update> button in muBlinder. Try the following steps:

Try to visit the MS Update site using IE directly, with muBlinder not running. If you are able to access the site successfully, go to step 1. If you receive the message "Navigation to the webpage was canceled", as you did when using muBlinder, report back.

  • Delete your muBlinder folder and its contents.
  • Copy %userprofile%\Local Settings\Application Data and paste it in the Run box.
  • When the contents of that folder are displayed, delete the sub-folder KRX and its contents.
  • Start again from scratch with muBlinder.

I'm somewhat confused. Your original problem, in 2010, was that this message appeared when you clicked on the <Go To MS Update> button in the Validation screen. Clicking on that button opens up the muBlinder browser, and I assumed that the browser opened, but instead of taking you to the Update site, it displayed the "Navigation to the webpage was canceled" message. But what I see from your screenshot is that you are on the About screen, which is displayed when you start muBlinder. Before we take this any further, can you confirm which of these scenarios is the correct one.

Either [a] The message is displayed when you start muBlinder.

Or [b] The message is not displayed when you start muBlinder, but when you go to the Validation screen and click on the <Go To MS Update> button, muBlinder changes to the About screen and displays the message.

I must say that I can see no logical way in which the answer can be [b], but if this a repeat of the problem you had in 2010, then this must be what is happening. I suspect that your problem this time is different and is not caused by muBlinder, but by your firewall not allowing muBlinder to contact our server, which it needs to do to display the correct Message of the Day. In that case the answer would be [a]. If so, you must ensure that your firewall allows muBlinder to connect to the Internet. Note that muBlinder should operate correctly even if it is blocked by your firewall from displaying the Message of the Day.

the answer would be [a]. it was actually the same in 2010. even with the firewall shut down, the same thing happens when i start muBlinder.

it appears that the firewall was not shutting down when i closed it. i went to the Windows Security Center to see if the Windows Firewall was enabled for some odd reason and found that it was not, but the regular firewall i use was still enabled. it looks like i'm all good now. thanks for the help!

Your script errors have nothing to do with using muBlinder. You might find this link helpful in resolving them. In the short term, have you tried clicking on Yes, or even NO, when you receive the error message?

Alternatively, you could try downloading Windows Media Player 11 directly here. You do not even need to use muBlinder, because I have by-passed the validation process so that you are able to download the file directly from the Microsoft Download server.

I'm getting this error when I try to run muBlinder.exe after extracting it. It says:

The application failed to initialize properly (0xc00000135). Click on OK to terminate the application.

Edit: nvm, i should RTFM.
