hey guys, this might sound really stupid, but...

i just bought a new case and am doing a build, and am trying to bundle loose wires for air flow and cosmetic appeal. i started using the rubber coated wire "twist ties" (the kind you use for garbage bags and that come with bread, etc.) that came w/ some of the hardware packaging to bundle some of the psu and case fan wires. then i was thinking there was the possibility that this could some how cause a short or something. does anyone have any info. on this...? is this a bad idea?

i mean, then again, it's basically the same material as the wires them selves. but even though they're coated, there could be some bare wire accessible, so i just want to make sure this isn't gonna "blow up in my face", so to speak... i tried to make sure none of the ties were near or touching any components, but that might not be enough if there's the possibility of an issue at all.

thanks guys, and be gentle on me... sad.gif

I would suggest that seeing as you have paid all this money out on a good system I would lash out an extra dollar or two and get the proper ties to ensure no malfunction within the PC due to bare wires touching anything. Not saying they wont do the job but!!!!

You need to tie them with something made to withstand heat. Although you can get away with those if they dont touch any components that generate alot of heat like the hard drives - you still run a risk of not just a short-circuit, but also fire and the rubber melting onto or ticking to other parts of the PC.

For a few dollars as engines said you can get better ones. I used to use industry standard ones that are used often inside racks at datacenters - forgot its name - but any good PC shop should have them. Now i just let em hang coz im lazy.
