Title: Chaos at Slyck forums continues after hack
WarXchild:

Its been chaotic at the p2p site Slyck lately.  News of the hacking of the Slyck forums has been the talk of major P2P sites for a while now. Fingers being pointed right and left with someone even blaming Steve Cohen of ES5. The forums at Slyck.com are still not back to normal. HouseCrowd, a Slyck.com admin, had this to say on the temporary forums they have set up "Slyck's forums will be restored as soon as possible. In the meantime, please feel free to use the temporary area, but bear in mind these posts will likely be lost once the forum is restored."

Title: Group complains about 'legal' download sites
WarXchild:

WASHINGTON - The Center for Democracy and Technology (CDT), a Washington, D.C., Internet civil liberties group, on Tuesday filed a federal deceptive-advertising complaint against two Web sites claiming to offer "100 percent legal" downloads of music, movies and software.

The CDT?s complaint, filed with the U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC), accuses Mp3DownloadCity.com and MyMusicInc.com of claiming their services are legal while directing their paying customers to free peer-to-peer (P-to-P) services where files are traded without the copyright owners? permission.

Title: Keep BitTorrent out of court
WarXchild:

The Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) took down the Loki Torrent Web site last month, but the open source technology known as BitTorrent -- used by Loki Torrent for free, unlicensed file sharing -- is not a target of the movie industry or other content owners, largely because of its legitimate uses, but also, according to legal experts, because it is open source software.

"It?s open source, so who do you go after?" asked Phil Albert, IP attorney and partner with the San Francisco law firm Townsend and Townsend. "You could go after its author and you could somehow force him to give up and say he?ll never touch it -- so what? It?s open source. Anybody can develop on it."

Title: Arizona Prosecutes Teen for Internet Piracy
WarXchild:

While Internet piracy and copyright infringement are usually thought of as federal crimes, one University of Arizona student found that that is not always the case.

Parvin Dhaliwal, 18, pleaded guilty last month in Maricopa County, Arizona, to possession of counterfeit marks, or unauthorized copies of intellectual property. The FBI, which had found copies of movies that had not yet been released on DVD on his computer, referred the case to the local level because Dhaliwal was 17 when he committed the crime, although he was 18 by the time he was charged, the county attorney?s office said.
